My Happy Place

Ok, I've tried to withold from blogging about Christmas gifts, but I'm just too darn excited about them to not blog.

First, I got Ghost Recon 2 for XBOX. I haven't played it much yet, but I plan on changing that fact this weekend. I also got a new grill from my parents...a big Weber. If you've ever eaten at my house when I grill, you probably already know that I pretty much suck at grilling. My meats are too dry or way underdone, my flavor just isn't very good, and it's not pretty looking. But now!!!! Now I can (or will be able to) grill with the best of them! Who knows, maybe in a few years, the Food Network will pick me up for an hour long grilling show! Anyway, I may have to have a grilling party soon, so I can test out my new awesome skills.

But the thing I'm most excited about it this: Allison and I are going to New York City!! She's been before, and I've always wanted to go. So sometime this Spring, we're packing up, dropping the kid off with whoever will take her (just kidding...grandparents and the Hannons), and heading up there for about 5 days to be complete idiot tourists!

So, if you've been to NYC and did something fun / interesting, let me know about it so we can enjoy it, too!

You gotta love them! I am taking the week off before Christmas to hang out with family and tote my daughter around to all the grandparents (Allison and I are just the chauffer's). So the week should (and has been) fun: hanging out with Allison, Emma, my parents, and in-laws. Good times.

Here's our schedule, in case you care (even if you don't, you probably can't quit reading a blog mid-post! So HAH!)

Saturday - Monday: Little Rock for Allison's extended family christmas
Monday - Thursday: Mountain Home for my family christmas with parents and the Hannons
Thursday - Sunday: Back to Little Rock for actual Christmas with Allison's family.
Sunday: back home to wonderful Johnson.

Now, I said I was "taking the week" off, meaning from work. That's not entirely accurate. In a sales environment like Nestle, there is no such thing as taking a week off at the end of the year. For 300+ days this year, we've pushed to hit a number that will be made or not made in the last 3 weeks of the year. And being the "report generator" for the Team Leader, I get the honor of working from wherever I am (Mtn. Home at the moment) to spit out a few reports each morning and get them to my boss. Good times.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Cherish the times with the family, even if they're annoying and stressful!

I've been a Sprint customer for 7 years. I love their service: quality phones, really clear phone calls. Customer service has been a real pain, but I've endured through the years.

Recently I heard a friend at work asking around about Cingular (he's a Sprint customer looking for a new provider). I went to their site and looked at rate plans / phones. Cingular has rollover minutes, pretty sweet phones, and a MUCH wider service area. I'm about 99% sure I'm divorcing Sprint and finding my new lady at Cingular.

My question for the blogging Ring of Fellowship is this: do you have Cingular/AT&T and what are your thoughts?

Man, sorry for not posting much this past week. Having posted roughly 6 pictures of Emma (understandibly so, of course), I decided to actually write a post.

However, nothing much has happened in the past week worth reading about...except work, travel, and sickness.

First, our really expensive, really cool, really complex server system broke at work. It took roughly 15 hours to diagnose what the problem was and how to attack it. We finally got it fixed, but after lots of time up and the office late at night.

Secondly, having been at work Friday night/Saturday morning until 3:00 AM, the fam headed to Branson with our old community group. Having several children between the families, everyone took their own car. We stayed at my parent's condo and rented the one next door to accomodate all the kiddos and parents. The women went shopping Saturday afternoon while the guys watched the kids, took naps, and caught up. When the ladies returned, we all packed up and went to Silver Dollar City to see the lights. It took about 45 minutes to get from the condo into SDC. We parked in a place I'm not God even knows about because it's so far away from the park. Once we got inside with the other 17,000 people, we went get some grub. With 17,000 people and 10 places to eat inside the park, you can imagine the wait we had. So, after we ate, we realized the kids had to go to bed soon. So most of the parents packed up and left, having been there for only about 90 minutes. We still got to eat and see the lights, but not much quality time just hanging out. Man, kids change your life! Sunday, we got up and the ladies made an extravegant breakfast. Some went shopping (again), and the rest of us just chilled and hung out. Then everyone left. Good times were had by all.

Thirdly: sickness. Allison called me Friday to let me know Emma was vomitting and had the runs. Thankfully, it was a 24-hour bug, so she wouldn't probably be contagious to the other kids in Branson. So Emma was puny, sleepy, and fussy all weekend long. We get home from Branson and Allison starts getting sick (same symptoms...icky). So I had an ailing wife and child on my hands Sunday. Being a parent is tough. But it is all worth it when you baby curls up on your shoulder and just wants to be held. God did good when he made baby girls.

So that's my weekend in a nutshell.

A very large, over-worked, over-stressed, under-time-managed, sickening nutshell.

To end on a brighter note: I am taking off all next week to hit up both families for Christmas! Little Rock (Allison's fam), then Mountain Home (my fam), then back to Little Rock for actual Christmas. Good times.

We celebrated Emma's 1st Birthday today (Saturday), though her true birthday is Sunday (Dec 5). We had a ton of Emma's playmates and their parents over to hang out and celebrate with us. It was amazingly overstimulating...but still fun. Here's us with her birthday cake from Rick's Bakery. Posted by Hello

Emma met Santa for the first time this year. She wasn't really sure what to think! She didn't smile at him, but didn't matter because she at least didn't cry! Here's she checking out his hand. She was more interested in his outfit than the man himself. Hopefully that doesn't mean she'll be shallow when older. ;) Posted by Hello
